From the Shiawassee County Office of Emergency Management
The Mid Michigan Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting Shiawassee County Emergency Management and the City of Durand with a warming shelter.
The shelter will be located at the Durand High School, 9575 E. Monroe St. There are still many residents in the County without power and the capability to remain warm and prepare a meal.
If you know of anyone who is in need of assistance please make contact with them and share this information. Check on your friends and neighbors frequently to ensure that they have the ability to remain safe and warm.
For additional information on the shelter, transportation and handicap accessibility call 211. No pets other than service animals will be allowed at this location. Make sure that you bring your medications. Snacks and water provide continuously, but no meal schedule is established at this time.
Use caution with candles as light or heat sources, fires can start and spread rapidly, never leave them unattended.
If using a generator as a power source make sure that they are placed in a well-ventilated area, outside and away from doors and windows.
