GREETINGS TO ALL THE AMATEURS OF MICHIGAN

There are two approaches to preparing your antennas for winter. Check

and repair them before the first snow falls, and the temperature drops,

or do it in the middle of a snowstorm or in 0-degree weather like many

of us do. We all have every intention of doing it before the bad weather

hits however many of us get busy and end up repairing in the worst

weather. So, as I reminder in hopes you get motivated to do it, I repeat

this message again this month. By the way I have not done mine yet

either. As I said we all get busy from time to time.

GET INVOLVED

Activate a park for Parks on the Air (POTA), activate a Summit for

Summits on the Air (SOTA). Drive to an inactive Grid and work portable

from it. Just get on the air and have fun!

MICHIGAN ARRL SECTION STAFF TRAVEL PLANS FOR THE REMAINDER OF OCTOBER.

10/22/2022 Negaunee Meet the Section Manager and Great Lakes Director

HOSPITALITY

Thanks to the Top of Michigan Amateur Radio Club and Thunder Bay Amateur

Radio Club for their hospitality in Gaylord.

Thanks to Muskegon club for their hospitality.

Thanks to the Kalamazoo club for their hospitality too.

It is always a great time to travel the state and meet Amateur Radio

Operators.

Club Coordinator Report

Sean Fleming K8KHZ reports about 10 clubs on the coordinated club list

that still need to be contacted however their contact information is no

longer valid. He continues his work on validating the clubs on the list.

He is going to start a Facebook page for the Michigan Section. I will

provide that link next month. There are many reasons to become an

affiliated club, please visit the provided links to learn the benefits.

If you have any questions, please send me an email. In the meantime, I

hope to hear you on the air. The links from last month are worth

repeating below to assist the clubs who want to become affiliated and or

become recognized Special Service Clubs. Clubs are very important to

Amateur Radio. They provide a means of both learning from others and

teaching others.

A hearty thanks to the hundreds of volunteers across the State of

Michigan who work hard as volunteers to hone their skills month after

month to make sure they are ready for any situation that may arise. Our

ARPSC and NTS programs are an integral part of AuxComm, which in turn is

an integral part of the Michigan State Police Homeland Security

Division. Public service is in the DNA of Amateur Radio, one of many

reasons we enjoy so many radio frequencies to utilize, experiment with,

and enjoy.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Winter is arriving and so is contest season, dx season and rag chew

season. On those cold snowy nights turn on the radio and explore. Make

new friends and chat with old friends. There is always something to do

amateur radio related.
